Fair MarketExchange

About

Built by people who do this for a living.

Fair Market Exchange came out of a brokerage, which is why it's shaped the way it is.

Most places to list a business for sale are classified ad sites with a business-for-sale skin on them. You post, you wait, and what arrives is a pile of enquiries from people who will never buy anything — mixed in with the two who might.

We kept running into the same two problems from opposite sides. A seller can’t say who they are without risking staff, customers and competitors finding out their business is on the market. A buyer can’t tell, from a redacted listing, whether anything here is worth their time. Both problems are solvable, but only if the platform is built around them rather than bolting them on.

What we believe

Confidentiality is the product, not a setting
A seller is anonymous until they decide otherwise. Not hidden behind a checkbox someone can forget — hidden by default, in how the system is built, with disclosure as a deliberate act.
Never stand between a buyer and a seller
Qualification happens, but it happens after the first knock, not before it. A marketplace that makes it hard to express interest is a marketplace with no interest in it.
What someone chooses not to tell you is information too
The questions about financing and capital are optional on purpose. Who answers them, and who doesn't, tells a seller something real — which is why we'd rather read that signal than force an answer.
A business is more than its multiple
People who built something care who takes it on. We ask buyers what they'd do in the first year and what matters to them, because for most sellers that's the question behind the question.

Where we operate

Canada, in Canadian dollars. We’re based in Alberta and work with sellers and buyers across the country. Everything on the platform — prices, cash flow, the businesses themselves — is Canadian.

Fair Market, and Fair Market Exchange

Fair Market is a business brokerage. Fair Market Exchange is this platform. They’re related but not the same thing: the brokerage is one participant here, with no more access to the marketplace than anyone else listing a business on it. If you want someone to run a sale for you rather than running it yourself, that’s the brokerage, and it’s a separate conversation.
